Special Olympics Spring Games

Getting there:

A little parade:

A little pagentry:

A little Hokie memorial tribute:

A little showing off:

A cute little athlete:

A little competition:

A whole lot of enthusiasm:

And a whole lot of love!

Here's the whole show: 2007 Special Olympics Area 9 Spring Games

Lady Liberty (sort-of)

It's late. I'm soooo tired, and hoping Diana doesn't go into labor tonight, BUT, I'm button-poppin' proud of our Olympic Torch Girl, Agape, and just had to post up her pictures!
Practicing

Our dear friends, Ken and Kay came to just long enough to cheer her on:

Ready to go:

Lifting high the flame:

Here's a short slideshow of her moment in glory.

4H Photographers

What a fantastic class of budding photographers I had today! Here's just a sampling of some of my favorites. There will be a slideshow later, but not tonight! I only had about 2 hours of sleep last night; Diana could pop out the baby any hour now, and we've got to be on the bus by 7 am tomorrow morning for the big Special Olympics area 9 track and field meet where Agape will be one of the 4 torch-bearers for the opening games!
Edited to add the slideshow:

Another fun image from the Georgia Aquarium. I've been sifting through the last 2 years of my work tonight in preparation for my class tomorrow, and have rediscovered so many wonderful shots, but I don't have time to post them tonight. So just let that be a little teaser!

It's the final week of rehearsals for our local dance school's production of Coppelia, so I thought I would bring back a picture from last year's spring show, "Sleeping Beauty."
Coquina Beach Jigsaw PuzzleCoquina Beach Jigsaw Puzzle

Thoughts of the beach are never far from my mind, but a beautiful warm day like today, certainly causes them to rise to the top. A favorite of mine, Coquina Beach, at South Nags Head, is one the most beautiful public beaches I know.

Horseshoe Bend

Finding this splendid scene on our out-west adventure was pure serendipity. This overlook of the Colorado River is just below Page Az. (and Lake Powell) before the river flows into the Grand Canyon.

Full of Hot Air

Things are brighter today! The baby didn't come, yet, so I have another chance to make the shoot! The Clark's flu bug is making a rapid passage, so I'm breathing a little easier about Sunday's performance.

I think it's about time to revisit our Christmas trip out west and put some of those great images to good use. It doesn't get much better than a bright, crisp morning soaring in a hot air balloon over the Sedona landscape.

Cozy Quilt

Blue Squares Jigsaw PuzzleBlue Squares Jigsaw Puzzle

I'm a little blue tonight. The cold I've been valiantly fighting off the last few days has finally overtaken me. My friend, Diana, called tonight to say that another one of her daughters has taken ill with the stomach bug, and she's not sure how many of her 4 kids who ring with the JoyBell Ringers will be well enough to play Sunday morning. She also reported that she thinks she's in early labor with #8, and that is, of course, happy news, but I was suppose to go with them to shoot the delivery, and now I can't go, because I have germs and I have to play at a funeral in Winston tomorrow morning. Boo-Hoo! I'm just going to wrap up in a cozy quilt like this and call it a night early.

Eighth Street Beach Jigsaw PuzzleEighth Street Beach Jigsaw Puzzle
This is the beach at 8th Street on the Isle of Palms. Back around 1990, the McPhersons rented the pink house on the corner for 2 years in a row. Nowdays, the house is yellow, and we continue to go to this beach when we are in Charleston, because we think we still have some ownership rights there. In less than 3 weeks, I get to go back and commence the jet ski season. Yahoo!!!

God, Have Mercy on Us

In memory of those ruthlessly slain at Virginia Tech (my husband's alma mater), I'm not posting a puzzle tonight. I ask that you please spend the time it takes to work a puzzle in prayer for the families of the lost, and for the healing of the Tech community.

"Heavenly Father,
Come with Your peace to the students, faculty and staff at Virginia Tech, and to the greater community of Blacksburg. Calm their fears and bring Your comforting presence. Give wisdom and strength to the administration of the University as they deal with this crisis. Grant healing and comfort to the injured and wisdom to those treating them. Bring Your powerful strength and presence to those friends and families who have lost loved ones and to those who have friends and family who have been injured. Send Your ministering spirit to heal and restore the entire community as they seek to recover from this horrendous act of violence. Call our nation to repentance and righteousness, that You may heal our land from all that troubles us.
Amen."

A little something to get you in the mood for the coming appearance of "The Pirates of the Golden Belle."

Blinding Snow! Dodging fallen trees on a dark, lonely highway! Wind buffeting the van all over the road! Just a few of the hazards we encountered on the drive home from Winston-Salem last night. We felt sorry for the Bennetts when we dropped them off at their eerily dark home. We felt safe and smug when we arrived to cheery warmth at our house. Then we felt chastised, dismayed, and disconnected when the power flipped off before we could even get inside the door! It's been on again/off again all day today; so here is a puzzle of a more pleasant place in my memory. Perhaps it will be a four minute vacation for you, too!

Here is another fun shot from that hot nightt in Oklahoma City. This was taken while on the canal ride, which was a really neat thing to find in a landlocked midwest city.
